Comfort in the scriptures

I find it amazing that music can provide such comfort. Often I only need to hear a few notes and my mind not only recognises the song but recalls the words, remembers events and even smells that I've associated with a specific tune. And then it's there, playing in my mind, sometimes for the rest of the day!
When I was little my parents used to run the Sunday school at the church I grew up in. Something that I remember with fondness were the songs that we always sang. They were just little choruses and looking back might be seen today as being a bit trite. But the thing is, I still remember them. As a few of you know, whenever I hear the old "Match of the Day" theme tune, rather than making me think of football I start singing, "Oh yes, I'm going to live for Jesus, for Jesus every day!"
I can sing the books of the New Testament (I can't quite remember the Old Testament one) and there are Bible verses that I was taught to sing as well. For example John 20:31 goes almost perfectly to the tune of Greensleeves. Go on, try it yourself:https://youtu.be/6T4qdndPUW8?
"But these are written that you may
believe that Jesus is the Christ,
the Son of God,
and that by believing
you may have life in His name."
What incredible truth to have whenever you want it. Just remember the tune.
So if I leave my Bible at home (or have it taken from me - perhaps more thoughts on that another time) or if my phone's power is drained and I can't load my Bible app, I still have God's word and no one can take it from me. Isn't that what the Psalmist had in mind when he wrote:
"I have stored up your word in my heart that I might not sin against you."
Psalm 119:11 ESV
I always hoped that someone might take this idea further and give us some new verses to music and someone has with "The Verses Project". Take a look, have a listen and let God's word sink in as you sing along:
