On Sunday, as we looked at Romans chapter 6 together and I concluded by challenging everyone to take one step each day to living lives of grace.
So just a day or two into this week, how are you doing?
I feel sure that you've not found it easy but I want to encourage you not to give up. Think back over what I said in the sermon and recall the words of chapter 6 verses 1 & 2:
What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?
Remember that Paul wasn't writing about the daily effort of standing up against sin. He was writing in the past tense; about something that had already happened. You, Christian, you have already died to sin: in Christ Jesus that's already happened. You have been freed from slavery to sin and have a new master now, a master who loves you, so why would you ever consider going back and obeying your old master?
So this week we stand together; we grow together; we take one step at a time in living lives of grace together.
As you come together this week to pray in your small groups, don't forget to uphold each other in those areas of your lives where you know you're weak and liable to be tempted to sin. Each morning, start by committing your day to God and considering how you can take steps to avoid your old master. He has no rights to command you any longer so remember you don't have to listen or obey.
We're not pretending that we can achieve a sinless life this side of heaven. But we want to do all we can to obey our Lord and Saviour in every aspect of our lives and to please Him in all we do. That's a mark of being a Christian, a child of the King!
