This last week, Nikki and I were privileged to attend the FIEC's annual Leaders Conference in Hemsby, Norfolk. It's the first one we've been to and we were so encouraged over the few days as we were there. John Stevens (the director of FIEC) took us through the letter to Titus each day calling us to be "Ready, Eager and Devoted" to the churches we lead. I hope you were able to take in just some of what we heard as I shared that with you on Sunday in my sermon.
Gospel Encouragements

Gospel encouragements were the theme of a sermon preached at BEChurch in September but as I read through a recent post on John Steven's blog I was delighted to see not just one but three other gospel preaching churches that we have connections with joining the FIEC.
Sometimes, especially when times are tough and we wonder how everything will work out, it's good to be reminded that we do not stand alone but are in fact part of something much bigger. It's at those times that we need to draw close to God and consider how great he is and get our perspective on life realigned. Read these verses from Psalm 8...
3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, 4 what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?
Hopefully it will be clear enough tonight for you to take a few moments to go outside and look up at the night sky. As you look up at the stars remember that they aren't there by chance but are there to give glory to God's greatness and to remind us of how small we are. Why not read the rest of Psalm 8 and meditate on the absolute wonder and majesty of God? Praise him for giving us, his creatures, the ultimate encouragement - the fantastic good news of the gospel.

This week we've been considering putting an advert in the local press to publicise BEChurch (specifically the carol service in December) and I've been deeply challenged to consider what it is that makes a church attractive.
I'll save you some time and hit you with my conclusion: I'm convinced that if what attracts people to BEChurch is not the gospel we've done something wrong.
